On Black Friday (what retail people call the day after Thanksgiving) there was an annual regatta hosted by the Mid-Michigan Fleet (Saginaw).

1st Annual

BLACK FRIDAY LASER REGATTA

November 27, 2009

 

1. INVITATION:  The Mid Michigan Laser Fleet invites you to the first annual Black

                               Friday Laser Regatta to be held on Lake Haithco, a  40 acre lake

                               located in Saginaw County’s William H. Haithco Recreation Area,

                               2121 Schust Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48603.

 

2. RULES

        2.1        The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined by the Racing Rules of

                     Sailing and the International Laser Class Association.

 

3. ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

        3.1        The regatta will be open to all Laser class boats as described by ILCA.

        3.2        Eligible boats may enter by completing registration at the launch site by

                     12:00PM EST on the date of the regatta.

 

4. FEES

        4.1        No fee will be charged for this regatta

 

5. SCHEDULE

        5.1        Registration will be held at the launch site from 11:00 to 12:00 on Saturday

                     November 27, 2009.

        5.2        1:00 PM     Warning signal for the first race with additional races to follow.

                                        No more than 7 races will be held with no race starting after

                                        3:30

                     Awards and discreet libations shortly following the last race.        

 

6. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

        6.1        Sailing instructions will be made available at registration.

 

7. VENUE

        7.1        Lake Haithco is a 40 acre lake oriented in a N-S direction.  The launch site

                     is located at the north end of the lake off a grassy beach.  Vehicles may take

                     boats to the beach, but must be parked in the nearby parking lot.   A map is

                     attached.  

                    

        7.2        Due to near shore trees and an apartment complex near the west shore the

                     wind can be quite shifty.

 

8. THE COURSES

         8.1      The course will be windward - leeward.  An offset at the windward mark and

                    gate at the leeward mark may be used depending on the number of

                    participants or as noted in 8.2

        8.2       A trianglular course may be used if the wind direction, velocity and the

                    number of participants warrants.

 

9. SCORING

         9.1     1 race will constitute a regatta.

         9.2     When at least 5 races have been completed a boats score will be the total of

                    her race scores excluding her worst race

 

10. PRIZES

       9.1       A total of 3 prizes will be awarded to the top 3 three boats with the lowest

                   combined score as defined in 9.2
